What JRNS stores, who handles data for the site, what is sent to the AI tutor and to Stripe, and how to delete your account. Last changed on October 9, 2026.

What this is

A study aid for nursing students, free to use apart from the AI tutor, which is part of an optional Pro plan: reference pages, practice questions and tools for nursing school and the NCLEX-RN. This site is run by one person, not a company. It is for people 18 and older. This page was last changed on October 9, 2026; when it changes, that date changes.

What is stored, and where

Without an account: everything - progress, notes, settings - is saved in this browser on this device and goes nowhere else. The daily visit count described below carries none of it.

With an account, the server stores: your username; a one-way scrambled form of your password and of your recovery code (not the password or code themselves); when the account was created and when it was last used; a scrambled record of each sign-in and when it ends; how many tutor questions you asked each day; whether your account has Pro and when that ends, and the scrambled form of any Pro code you used (kept with your account until you delete it); if you start a Pro subscription, the record described next; and your study data with the time each part last changed, so it can follow you between devices. If you join the monthly leaderboard, the server also keeps what the section about it below describes.

Your study data means everything the app saves except the report sheet: progress and scores, notes, class grades and GPA, the financial planner's figures, your hours log, care plans, prep sheets and journal. Unlike your password it is not scrambled - the person who runs this site, and the company that hosts it, are able to read it. Leave out anything you would not want them to see.

Subscription records. If you start a Pro subscription, the server also stores Stripe's customer and subscription ids (codes that mean something only to Stripe), which plan you chose, the status Stripe last reported, when the period you paid for ends and whether it is set to end there, and the time you ticked the agreement box. It does not store a card number, an email address or a name: you type those on Stripe's own page, and Stripe keeps them. For 45 days it also keeps the ids of the messages Stripe sends it, so one message is never applied twice. Nothing is recorded about payments for an account that never started a subscription.

This site asks for no email address, real name, phone number or location, and stores none. This site sets no cookies and has no ads and no tracking. If you subscribe to Pro, Stripe's payment page asks for your email address and card; Stripe collects and keeps them, and sets its own cookies on that page under its own policy.

Visits are counted without knowing who anyone is. Once a day this browser tells the server five yes-or-no facts - whether this is its first visit this week, this month or ever, whether it first came at least a week ago, and whether it is signed in - and the server adds them to that day's totals. It keeps no record of any one visitor and never writes an address down (to stop floods it holds the sending address in memory for up to a day, and then forgets it; the same is true, for up to an hour, of the address used to limit sign-ups and sign-in tries - it is never stored in the database), and the count is sent without your sign-in. If your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, it is not counted at all.

This browser's own storage holds your sign-in (so you stay signed in until you sign out), a copy of your study data (so the app works offline), a small note of the colors you last used and the app's version (so it opens quickly; it is written again each time the app opens), and the dates of this browser's first and latest visit (for the daily count above). None of it is used for anything else, and Sign out and clear this device removes all of it.

Separately, this browser keeps a copy of the site's own pages and files so the site can open offline, and now and then asks the server for a tiny version file, without your sign-in, to tell you when a newer version is ready. Neither holds anything about you, and clearing this device leaves the copy of the site in place. The home page and the other public pages read the colors you chose in the app from this browser's storage so they match; they never write to it or send it anywhere. The Pricing page also asks the server for the plans and their prices, without your sign-in.

Read-aloud uses your browser's own voices. Some browsers also offer online voices that send the text being read to the browser's maker; this site does not control that. Choose a voice marked local, or do not use read-aloud on text you typed.

The report sheet is never uploaded, signed in or not: it can hold a real patient's room and initials, and the server refuses it.

A test, a Rounds run or a Floor shift you are in the middle of stays on the device where you started it. Your answers and the finished result are saved to your account.

Clinical prep sheets, journal entries and notes ARE saved to your account when you are signed in. Keep them free of names, initials, room numbers, dates of birth and record numbers - your school's rules on patient information apply here exactly as they do on paper.

Three outside companies handle data for this site. The server is hosted by Render, which may keep ordinary connection logs, such as IP addresses, and backups of its disks, under its own policy. Anthropic receives what is sent to the tutor (the section called The tutor). Stripe, Inc. takes payments for Pro on its own payment page and keeps the email address, the card details and the payment records; this site gets back only the subscription's status, plan and dates. Nothing is sold or shared with any other company, and nothing about you is shown to other students unless you join the monthly leaderboard.

The monthly leaderboard

The leaderboard is off for every account until you join it from its page. Making an account never joins it, and nothing about you is shown to other students unless you do.

If you join, other signed-in students who have also joined can see your board name, how many graded questions you answered this month and your place - but only while you are placed in the top half of the board. Students below it are not shown to anyone. If you also choose to show your avatar, they see it as you dressed it, including the skin tone, hair or head covering and the items you earned. They never see your username, your accuracy, your scores or what you studied.

Counts change as you practice, so someone who knows your board name and watches the board closely could tell roughly when you studied. You can leave at any time, and take a new board name up to three times a week; either takes effect at once. A new name keeps your count and place, so it does not hide you from someone already watching - leaving does.

Students who have not joined see only how many students are on the board and, once enough of them have practiced, a rounded total of the questions they answered together, which names no one and is never shown when it could reveal one person's count. People who are not signed in see nothing.

Board names are made up by the site from a fixed list of words and never contain your username. If one happens to match your real name, pick another. The person who runs this site can see which account a board name belongs to, and can take any account off the board.

For each account on the board the server stores its board name, whether its avatar is shown, how many graded questions were answered on each day of this month and last month (worked out from the answers already saved to your account), and, if the person who runs the site took it off the board, that fact. Days older than last month are deleted. A name that is given up is held for 45 days, with no link to any account, so nobody else appears under it.

Counts come from your own devices and are not checked by the server.

Leave at any time from the leaderboard page: your name, counts and avatar come off this month's and last month's boards at once, and your study data is not touched. Deleting your account does the same.

The tutor

The tutor is part of JRNS Pro, a paid subscription (its terms are in the JRNS Pro subscription section of the Terms of use). The server answers only accounts that have Pro - you can subscribe on the Account page, or enter a code you were given - and every other account is told so, with nothing sent to Anthropic.

The tutor is an AI model, Anthropic's Claude - not a nurse and not an instructor. Ask and Teach it back send your question, the text of the page you are on and anything you typed into that page through this site to Anthropic to be answered. This site passes it on and does not keep it; it records only how many questions each account asked each day, to hold the daily limit.

Anthropic handles what is sent to it under its own terms. It keeps it for a limited time that Anthropic sets, and its safety systems can review it for misuse. This site does not attach your username or account to the request, cannot shorten that time, and deleting your account here does not reach Anthropic's copy.

Do not put anything that identifies a real patient into a question, or into any page where you use Ask or Teach it back: they send what is typed on the page. Ask is switched off, and nothing is sent, on the report sheet, Clinical prep, the clinical journal, the Account page and the leaderboard, and while a timed test, a check-off, a Rounds room, the readiness check, a shift question or a practice exam is open. The tutor is built to decline questions about a real person's care; do not use an answer to decide a real patient's care. If you are in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, call or text 988 (US) or call 911 - the tutor is an AI and is not the place for that, though it will point you there.

Answers are generated by an AI model and can be wrong. Check anything that matters against your course materials or the drug label.

How long things are kept

An account and its study data are kept until you delete the account. The daily tutor counts are kept with the account and removed with it; today's total stays as a bare number with no account attached, so the site-wide daily limit cannot be reset by deleting accounts.

A sign-in ends after 60 days without use, and after 180 days whether it was used or not; you then sign in again.

Leaderboard names and daily counts are kept while you are on the board, and only for this month and last month.

A subscription's record is kept with the account and removed with it. Stripe keeps its own payment records for as long as the law requires, under its own policy.

Your choices

Delete your account at any time from Account & sync: the account and everything stored in it are removed from the server's database right away, and it cannot be undone. If the company that hosts the server keeps backups of its disk, a copy can remain in them until they expire on its schedule. Each device you signed in on keeps its own copy until you clear it there.

If you have a subscription, deleting the account cancels it and removes your payment details from our payment provider; Stripe keeps the payment records the law requires. To cancel without deleting the account, open Account & sync and choose Manage subscription.

Change your password, or get a new recovery code, from Account & sync. If you lose both the password and the recovery code the account cannot be recovered. It can still be deleted: write to JRNSDeck@outlook.com with the username and roughly when the account was made.

Join or leave the monthly leaderboard, change your board name or hide your avatar there, from the leaderboard page.

Settings, Backup & transfer exports everything saved on this device as a file you keep.

Sign out and clear this device removes the copy in this browser, including the practice exams' history - use it on a shared computer.

Cookies, Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control

This site sets no cookies. If you subscribe, you leave this site for Stripe's payment page, which sets its own cookies under its own policy.

If your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, the daily visit count is not sent at all.
